Specialist Prosthodontist

Dr Joe Bhat

Specialist in Prosthodontics and Oral Surgery

Joe qualified in 1992 and furthered his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at some of the country's leading units for five years. During this time he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, England. He then undertook a three-year full time specialist training program in Prosthodontics at the London Dental School in 1998. This culminated in a Master of Clinical Dentistry from the University of London and Membership in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2001.

His clinical time is spent as a private referral practitioner at the Moor Park Specialist Dental Centre. He has also been a Clinical Lecturer for the Master of Clinical Dentistry program at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute in the heart of London. Joe's clinical practice is restricted to the management of complex restorative problems and in the placement and restoration of dental implants.

Joe regularly lectures both in the UK and abroad on dental implants and is an extremely sought after speaker. He is currently a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), Fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD), Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh for the Diploma in Implant Dentistry and Examiner for the General Dental Council and runs his own implant training and mentoring program for dentists in the London area.

He is the past Chairman of the Brent and Harrow section of the British Dental Association which he ran for five years and the Principal and founder of the Moor Park Specialist Dental Centre.

He lives in Buckinghamshire with his wife and 3 children and is a keen golfer.

Periodontal Treatment

Dr Lydia Hopkins

Specialist in Periodontics

Lydia qualified from the London Hospital Medical College in 1990. She worked in general practice and the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Ashford Hospital and was awarded a Dentsply Scholarship before specialisation. Her specialist training (MSc) was at the Eastman's Dental Institute (1995) and she entered the specialist register in 1997.

She spent the last 23 years working as a Specialist for NHS Trusts, private practices, and as a lecturer (Bart's and the London, School of Dentistry) teaching trainee Specialists, undergraduates and hygienists. She produced innovative research1 and published numerous papers. As a regional educational representative for the British Society of Periodontology (10 years) she provided lectures/courses for dentists and promoted dental research as a member of The London Dental Research Engagement Strategy Group for Primary Care ("LonDRES"). She also designed a known periodontal model for surgical training/patient education. Lydia achieved a Certificate in Learning and Teaching and associate membership of the Higher Education Academy. As a respected and experienced clinician in the periodontal community she was an invited examiner (Eastmans' Dental Institute, IQE, GDC) and key scientific advisor for industry.

Lydia now works closely with Professor Bhat in the interdisciplinary Moor park practice who are taking referrals. The team offer the advanced treatment of Periodontal disease and Peri-implantitis and give related education to referral practices.

Dr Nick Vyas

Dr Vyas has been a qualified dentist since 1990.

Since qualifying he has received further training that has lead to the title of 'Specialist' being conferred. He has a Masters degree from London University, where he graduated with Distinction and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, by examination.

He has been registered with the General Dental Council as a Specialist since 1999.

Dr Vyas is particularly keen to consistently update his skills and knowledge and regularly attends courses and conferences nationally and internationally.

He has subsequently received further training with regards to dental implants, which is increasingly becoming an important aspect of dentistry/periodontics as more and more patients are undergoing implant treatment.

As well as being in Specialist practice at Moor Park and in Central London, he is a part-time London University Lecturer for Masters Degree students training to become the Specialists of the future. He is also a Research Fellow at the University of Middlesex, linked to the Health Sciences and Business Schools, where he is involved in researching the effects of stress on oral health.

Dr Vyas also has experience as a medico-legal expert witness involving periodontal cases.

Endodontic Treatment

Dr Norman Gluckman

Dr Norman Gluckman qualified as a General Dental Practitioner in South Africa in 1969 and worked as a dentist until completion of his endodontic specialist training in Israel. This allowed him to gain extensive experience in routine dental treatment and allowed him to understand the need to maintain and preserve peoples own teeth.

He registered as a Specialist in Endodontics in Israel in 1979 and with the General Dental Council in the UK in 1999.

Since 1979 Norman has gained experience working exclusively in endodontics in Israel and the United Kingdom. He regularly attends national and international symposiums in endodontics keeping abreast of the latest technology and methods in contemporary endodontics.

He lives in the heart of London and enjoys a round of golf on a regular basis.

Oral Surgery

Dr Neeta Patel

Specialist in Oral Surgery

Neeta graduated from Sheffield University in 1989. She pursued a career in oral surgery, working initially at hospitals in Sheffield, York and Bath. She progressed to more senior hospital roles, gaining experience in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery at hospitals in Salisbury, Norfolk and Norwich and at the Central Middlesex Hospital in London. She gained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 1993 and is on the Specialist Register of the General Dental Council for Oral Surgery. She subsequently worked in Cambridge for 6 years and is currently a part time locum consultant oral surgeon for a large NHS trust.

She provides specialist oral surgery for patients, carrying out most surgery under local anaesthesia. However she is a member of SAAD (Society of the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry) and for the anxious patient conducts surgery under conscious sedation.

Neeta is married with 3 children. She has a keen interest in wines and spirits, which led her to sit an academic examination in this field to achieve the diploma in wines and spirits. She is also a keen photographer.

Children’s Dentistry

Professor Raman Bedi

Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry

Dr Raman Bedi was Chief Dental Officer – England from October 2002 to October 2005.

He is Chairman of the Global Child Dental Fund. In 2005 he was asked, by the UK government, to establish the Global Child Dental Health Taskforce. The mission of the taskforce was to support governments on how they can improve children's oral health.

Professor Bedi was an NHS paediatric dental consultant from 1991 – 2005. He provides dental care in Harley Street and the BUPA Cromwell hospital.

Professor Bedi trains dentists in paediatric dentistry in over 5 countries and each year runs a Senior Dental Leadership programme which is a collaboration between Harvard University and King's College London. He holds a fellowship of dental surgery from all the Royal Colleges in the United Kingdom.

He is based at King's College London and has held an honorary chair at University College London where he was the co-director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre at the Eastman Dental Institute from 1998 to 2008. He also has an honorary "Extraordinary Professorship" in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa (2007-2010). He has examined and lectured in over 40 countries.

He was past President of the British Society for Disability and Oral Health in 2002, President of the Education Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) from 2002 to 2004 and chair of the IADR Regional Development Programme Committee from 2002 to 2004. He has published over 190 scientific papers and five books.

Dr Ayesha Patel

Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry

Dr Ayesha Patel is a specialist in Paediatric Dentistry. Following five years at dental school, Ayesha worked in general dental practice and held posts in maxillofacial surgery and paediatric dentistry at King's College Hospital. After this, Ayesha wished to pursue her passion for paediatric dentistry and was offered the opportunity to complete three years of specialist-based paediatric dentistry training at the prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital. She recently qualified as a specialist, passing her Membership in Paediatric Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She is up-to-date with all the evidence-based treatments and is dedicated to the oral health of children, from infancy throughout the various stages of childhood and teenage years.

Ayesha prides herself in her abilities to managing children who are anxious or have behavioural problems and can provide Inhalation Sedation effectively to help patients relax. She routinely provides high-quality dental treatment for children restoring carious teeth providing white fillings or preformed metal (stainless steel) crowns if required. Other skills include managing dental trauma, dental anomalies and providing endodontic treatment for children.

During Ayesha's specialist training she worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital and in the community dental service gaining experience managing children with complex medical conditions and special needs.

Ayesha is a member of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry and was a representative for BDA Central Committee for Hospital Dental Services and the London Specialist Training Committee. Ayesha has been invited to teach at The Royal College of Surgeons of England and has had several articles published in both Dental Update and the British Dental Journal. She regularly presents nationally and internationally on subjects related to paediatric dentistry.

Ayesha strives to promote preventative strategies and thrives on seeing children overcome their anxieties and enjoy coming to the dentist.

Orthodontic Treatment

Dr Sheetal Patel

Specialist in Orthodontics

Sheetal qualified in 1995 and subsequently worked in general dental practice, oral and maxillofacial surgery and paediatric dentistry prior to specialising in Orthodontics. During this period she gained her Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Sheetal has completed a three year specialist training programme in Orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Hospital. This culminated in the award of a research prize for her Masters degree and she gained the Intercollegiate Membership in Orthodontics. She has presented at the British and European Orthodontic Society Conferences. She teaches postgraduate students in Orthodontics within a hospital setting outside of her private practice.

Sheetal enjoys outdoor pursuits with her family, playing tennis and is an accomplished pianist. She is committed to continuing professional development and to delivering a quality, patient centred service.

Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Mr Mohammad Shorafa

Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Mr Mohammad (Mo) Shorafa is the clinical lead for the regional oral & maxillofacial services based at Northwick Park Hospital. He is Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon & Oral Surgeon at Northwick Park, Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospitals.

Mo qualified in Dentistry in 1992, following which he also undertook a period of focused research and was awarded a Masters Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (MDS), he also has a Medical (MBBS) degree from Kings College London.

He trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery working in some of London's leading hospitals including Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, Eastman Dental Hospital and The Royal London Hospital, which culminated in his Intercollegiate FRCS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Mo has a special interest in orthognathic surgery, oral and maxillofacial trauma, oral medicine, dental implantology including bone grafting and sinus lift, minor oral surgery including surgical removal of wisdom teeth under local anesthesia, sedation and general anesthesia.

He is the Clinical Supervisor for the specialty registrars in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Educational Supervisor for the dental foundation trainees. He is the Royal College of Surgeons BAOMS Specialty Advisor for the region, a member of Council for the Oral & Maxillofacial section of the Royal Society of Medicine and also a member of the BAOMS Clinical Effectiveness Committee (CEC).

Special Care Dentistry

Dr Amanda Reynolds

Specialist in Special Care Dentistry

Amanda qualified in dentistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

At the start of her career she worked as a generalist in private practice, before returning to the UK to take up postgraduate studies and work within the field of Special Care Dentistry. She has been a specialist since 2011 and has spent 18 years of her career providing care within the NHS for adults with special needs.

Amanda currently works as a Specialist for the Central and Northwest London NHS Foundation Trust. She had previously spent 13 years working within east London CDS, latterly known as Barts and the London NHS Trust, and was a clinical lead for Community Dental Services in Devon before returning to London. Her teaching experience is as a clinical lecturer and supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate dentists.
